AKUMU INK
" 'Akumu' is Japanese for Nightmare, which is reflected in each design created. " - Akumu Ink
Akumu Ink launched its online store in early 2008. It all started in a humble two bedroom apartment in Montreal, when Joey and Aldora decided to print t-shirts themselves with a small hobby quality machine in their spare bedroom. Joey is the artist behind all the dark arts, while Aldora manages the business and logistics aspect of the company. “Akumu” is Japanese for Nightmare, which is reflected in each design created. The designs are heavily inspired by everything coming from Japan, from its terrifying horror movies to its cute pop icons. Some of the artwork is also inspired by classic stories like Alice in Wonderland, along with artists like Edward Gorey and Tim Burton.
After three years of printing each individual shirt Joey found himself in the role of being a printer. As an artist, all he wanted to do was focus on creating new designs. In mid 2011 Akumu Ink branched out from just selling online to also being available in boutiques, small shops, and online stores across North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan. The shirts are now printed and shipped from California, USA.
"For those of you who own our shirts, make sure to.....Wear it to death!"
