A lot of piercers in Europe use cannula needles rather than hubless hollow piercing needles. The hub is the plastic portion of the needle that would normally lock or twist onto a syringe.
A cannula needle is a hypodermic needle (a standard hubbed hollow needle) but with a plastic sheath on it which is also hubbed.
These needles are primarily utilized for inserting IVs.
Below is a general step by step procedure on what a piercing would look like with the cannula needle. Keep in mind you must follow all proper set up and disposable steps like you would with any normal piercing.
Some piercers will cut the hub off the plastic sheath once it is inserted into the piercing. This allows the piercer to insert the jewelry from either end.
