Wolfsbane Tattoo Apothecary

Natural Tattoo Aftercare

About Us

Decades of tattooing experience

Wolfsbane Tattoo Apothecary is a family-run business, based in Toronto, Ontario.

During our 30 years of tattooing experience, we have always realized there was something important missing from the tattoo industry.

As an owner of one of Toronto's original tattoo shops, founder Dave has been waiting for a product to fill a particular need—a soap made specifically for tattoo aftercare. Surprised that in 2019, such a product still did not exist, we decided to stop waiting.

Generations of soap makers

Founders Val and daughters Morgana and Mackenzie come from a long line of soap makers, going back to their great-great-grandmother.

With our decades of knowledge in the tattoo industry, and our generations-long soap making experience, we decided to take this perfect combination of skills and create an exciting new product made specifically for healing new ink!

So in 2019, Wolfsbane Tattoo Apothecary was born!

Owned and operated in Toronto

We set out to make a soap that is natural, biodegradable, free of dyes and perfumes, vegan, with a neutral pH, that is not tested on animals.

And most importantly, a soap that is designed specifically for caring for that new tattoo.

As tattoo artists, we understand how vitally important the aftercare process is to the proper healing of a new tattoo.

The only soap made specifically for tattoo aftercare

Wolfsbane Apothecary Tattoo Soap™ cleanses without upsetting the delicate natural pH balance, necessary for a tattoo to properly heal.

Because we don't use animal oils, our soap rinses clean, and leaves no soapy film behind.

Ingredients

While many of the ingredients shown in our list may sound pretty scary, once
you know what they are in non-scientific terms, you’ll know there’s
nothing to fear!

Aqua: is simply water.

Glycerin: is a natural by-product of the saponification process. When oil reacts
with alkaline, it forms soap and glycerol.

Sodium stearate: is the sodium salt of stearic acid – many natural ingredients naturally contain stearic acid.

Sorbitol: is sugar alcohol found in fruits and plants and is used to prevent moisture loss on skin.

Sodium oleate: is the sodium salt of oleic acid, a common unsaturated fatty acid found in many plants such as olive oil.

Butyrospermum Parkii: (Shea Butter) is a vegetable fat obtained from the fruit of a tree native to Africa.

Sodium laurate: derived from from lauric acid which comes from coconut oil and helps to create a foam.

Sodium myristate: derived from coconut oil and helps to cleanse the skin making it easier to remove oils and dirt.

Sodium chloride: is simply salt. Salt is stimulating, cleansing, antiseptic and astringent.

Sodium citrate: is a salt of citric acid. Citric acid is an organic acid that occurs naturally in plants. It adjusts the acidity of our soap.

Titanium dioxide: is a white mineral pigment that is found in nature in the form of minerals.

Pentasodium pentetate: a chelating agent used to bind and sequester metal ions. It is the salt of Pentetic Acid.

Tetrasodium etidronate: removes metal ions or minerals and helps reduce the scum that some soaps naturally develop when used.

Grapeseed organic carrier oil: or grape oil as it is sometimes called, is extracted from the seeds of the Vitis vinifera botanical, which is typically cultivated to produce wine grapes. Used topically, it absorbs easily into the skin to deliver
intense moisture without irritating the skin, leaving an oily residue, or clogging pores. It is known for having antiseptic and astringent properties which help repair
the skin.

Calendula herbal oil: is a natural oil extracted from marigold flowers (Calendula officinalis). Mainly, its healing power and capability to cleanse wounds makes it
the number one choice in external, herbal healers.
